Husband and wife co-found Golden Asia to promote hydraulic cylinders
Fang Jian-tian, General Manager of Golden Asia Industrial Co., and the company’s chairwoman Chen You-yu are a good example of husband-and-wife entrepreneurs.
In April 1999, the duo set up their firm in Huatan Township, Changhua County. Unexpectedly, an earthquake hit Nantou County on September 21, 1999, causing all companies in central Taiwan to shut down temporarily. But the 921 earthquake did not shatter Fang’s confidence. The married couple decided to enter and develop overseas markets.
Even though Fang and Chen could not speak English very well, they took part in a large number of major exhibitions all over the world to approach new clients step by step in an effort to lay the foundations for opening up the global market.
Under the married couple’s cooperation and management, Golden Asia has been transformed from an import-focused manufacturer into the export-focused supplier. With a global management mindset, the company has also been growing and thriving, as well as establishes a good reputation in the Taiwan’s hydraulic cylinder industry.
In 2009, Golden Asia won the 12th Rising Star Award from the Small and Medium Enterprise Administration, Ministry of Economic Affairs. In 2010, Fang and his wife were elected the 33th Model of Entrepreneurs by the National Association of Young Entrepreneurs in Taiwan. These awards were well deserved.
Golden Asia specializes in the production of steel pipes for hollow hydraulic cylinders, piston rods (chrome plated rods), and guide rods for automated machinery. The company’s product lines range from centerless grinders to vertical hole honing machines, testing instruments for hard chrome thickness, detectors for the surface roughness of piston rods, piston rod micrometer calipers, hydraulic pipe pressure testing equipment, bore gage testing instruments, sulfuric acid measuring machines, granite testing platform, hardness measuring machines, and salt spray testing machines.
Hydraulic cylinders are extensively used in many areas, including garbage trucks, hydraulic pistons of dump trucks, forklift trucks, missile launching pads, dams and water gates, three-dimensional parking space in the department stores, automatic bus door systems, and surgical tables. Apart from Taiwan’s market, the Changhua County-based company’s products have been exported to nearly 60 countries around the globe.
In May 2013, Golden Asia signed an exclusive agreement with Germany’s Salzgitter Mannesmann Stainless Tubes, and then serves as the sole distributor with the rights to sell the 125-year-old company’s seamless stainless steel tubes in Taiwan and China. Salzgitter Mannesmann Stainless Tubes is one of the worldwide leading manufacturers of seamless stainless steel and nickel-based alloy tubes and pipes.
Golden Asia has introduced seamless stainless steel-based tubes and pipes from Salzgitter Mannesmann Stainless Tubes. The inside diameter of seamless stainless steel tubes ranges from 1.5 cm to 410 cm. Their thickness ranges from 0.2 cm to 28.5 cm. The materials include low-, medium-carbon structural steel, and chromium-molybdenum alloy steel.
Fang hopes that the combination of high-quality raw materials from Germany’s Salzgitter Mannesmann Stainless Tubes and professional process skills of Golden Asia will enable steel tubes made in Taiwan to be exported to the world market.
In fact, today’s achievements of Golden Asia are primarily attributed to innovative research and development, strict quality control measures, and quick delivery services. In an effort to meet the requirements of international standards, the Changhua County-based company has obtained SGS-accredited ISO 9001:2000 certification in 2001 and UKAS-accredited ISO 14001:2004 certification in 2007 for environmental management systems.
In addition, Golden Asia has not only bought several bar peeling and straightening machines, but also innovated in the manufacturing process of piston rods and stainless steel tubes. Such approaches can help improve product quality and increase production efficiency, thereby enhancing the company’s competitive edges in the world market.
